Karivepaku KaramPodi (Spiced Curry Leaves Powder)

Ingredients:

  • curry leaves - 2 cups (picked, washed and dried)
  • senaga pappu (bengal gram) - 4 tbsps
  • minappa pappu (gram dal) - 2 tbsps
  • cumin seeds (jeera) - 1 tbsp
  • coriander seeds (danialu) - 1 1/2 tbsps
  • dried red chillis - 10-12
  • tamarind - 1 small lemon sized
  • oil - 1 1/2 tbsp
  • garlic - 5 cloves
  • salt to taste




Preparation Method :

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add bengal gram, gram dal, red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and fry them on medium heat till it turns the golden color.Remove from a pan and Keep aside.
In the same pan add 1tsp of oil and add the curry leaves and toss them about till they are crisp and roasted. Keep tossing them about while roasting the leaves. Turn off heat and cool all the roasted ingredients.
Let the all ingredients will be cool.
Grind first all dals, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, tamarind, garlic and salt.
Now add curry leaves and grind to make a powder (remember all the ingredients should be cool before grinding).
Store in air tight container. It will stay 15 days to one month.

Serve hot rice with ghee or idli.
