It’s not just the main course that we are talking about. Ever thought of what to do about snacks when relatives come visiting? Why bother ordering in or opening a packet of munchies, when you can make piping hot and sinfully delicious authentic Andhra snacks. From the crunchy punugulu and mirchi bhajji, to the yummy chekkalu and garelu, there is nothing that spells traditional more that these staple Andhra snacks.

Chegodi

Ingredients

  • 100 gms moong dal (yellow)
  • 150 gms rice flour
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp jeera
  • Hot water, as per requirement
  • 500 gms oil
  • Salt to taste
Method
Soak the yellow moong dal in water for an hour before you start cooking. In boiling water, add rice flour, turmeric, chilli powder and jeera. Add the soaked moong dal and make a dough. Roll this dough out into a long strip and make rings out of it. Deep fry these rings until golden-brown and crisp. Serve with chutney
